From a man’s point of view hair removal is an undaunting task.  Men typically have a lot more hair, thicker concentration and thicker hair follicles.  A man will think if they remove hair from their person how is it going to look?  Is it going to fade into the existing hair?  Do I have to remove more than I expected? Where do I stop?  I was this man, I had/have a good layer of bodily hair on my body, maybe not in the extent I could shave text into my back or chest but a good amount.  My personal issue was the hair on my back.  Growing up in the 90’s and early 2000’s with media showing us the Calvin Klein models and sleek male bodies, I did feel a little insecure about the hair on my back.  It was ghastly, I had the typical dark patch on my lower back and two slightly less dense patches on each shoulder blade.

When I finally made the determination to make the appoint, I was a bit nervous since I had all these questions going through my head.  As they led me to the room they consulted me on options, would I like to lie flat on my stomach on use the back massage chair.  I chose the chair as I was told there might me some pain. I removed my shirt and my back was shaved.  They did say that it is preferred to be shaved the day before if possible.  However with no one at home and the thought of asking a friend to shave my back, I let the laser tech perform this task.

And as for pain, there was some pain.  The pain is indicative to the density of hair follicles from my experience.  Where the hair is most dense and thickest, as noted, my lower back it was quite painful my first treatment.  I would say the feeling was that of being stung by a bee for 2 seconds and the pain would immediately disappear.  Areas that have more visible skin was slight pricks.  I had a total of 8 procedures on my back with 6-8 weeks between treatments.  I have to say the first one was the worst with the pain tolerance, but by mid way through my treatments it was almost nothing.  The first procedure took almost a couple of hours due to my low threshold of pain tolerance.  By the 4th procedure I was in and out in 45 minutes.  They also provide options for alleviating the pain such as topical numbing ointment, ice packs or even laughing gas.

The laser treatment doesn’t leave an obvious line where the treatment was done and where it was stopped.  Since it was a few treatments the fading between my none existing back hair and other parts of my body seems very natural.  I treated my entire back and faded the front of my shoulders to my chest, it was a very natural transition and I couldn’t be happier.  The next step for me will be my airpits and looking forward to shaving them ever again.
