Each year right before summer I hear my clients say that they plan on “taking a break” from professional treatments and skincare during the summer months. While summer is a time everyone loves to be outdoors, keeping up protective measures to maintain the health and appearance of your skin are essential during these hot days.
Although the sun’s rays feel absolutely sensational, the damage inflicted may not be worth the future wrinkles, sun spots and dry skin that will inevitably surface as a result of the damaging UV levels your skin is exposed to during the summer months. The best advice that I can givemy clients is to encourage them to to continue to do treatments such as hydrating facials and microdermabrasion treatments. Maintaining clean and hydrated skin, along with simplifying your homecare routine will protect and condition your skin and allieviate the effects that usually appear after summer fades to fall.
A good start to maintaining healthy skin during summer is to schedule an Intraceuticals Oxygen facial or Dermal Infusion facial treatment every 4-6 weeks if possible. By doing these medical grade treatments you’ll be restoring much needed moisture and exfoliating that outter dull layer of skin. Hydration is especially important this time of year, and professional masks and serums containing hyularonic acid (to plump the skin) can be applied deep into the skin for a youthful healthy glow.
A topical vitamin C serum and a physical block sunscreen is mandatory on a daily basis and is especially vital if you will be at the beach. Sunscreen should contain Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide. UVA rays cause the most damage and will penetrate the skin causing premature aging and possible skin cancer. Dr. Obagi’s new line called ZO has a Sunscreen + Primer that protects against UVA, UVB, HEV and IR-A rays. Antioxidants such as Jan MArini’s C-Esta serum are rich in protective qualities, and along with sunscreen, lock down your skins surface to neutralize harmful penetration of UV rays. If you’re not sure of the antioxidant that is preferred for your particular skin type, we offer complimentary consultations where we can examine your skin and go over the right home care regimen that will work for you.
I cant stress enough to my clients that good skin care must continue during the summer months. My advice- schedule professional treatments monthly, apply an antioxidant serum layered with a physical block sunscreen and you’ll come back from summer break looking better than ever! To help you achieve your summer skin care goals, Blue Point Medical Spa is offering a combo treatment that includes Dermal Infusion and Oxygen Facial for only $250.
