Sculptra Vs. Voluma

Not all or injectables are created the same. Some target different areas of the face, and, more importantly, produce different effects.

Unlike other injectables like Juvederm, Restylane or other hylaronic acid dermal fillers, Sculptra Aesthetic is an FDA-approved injectable that helps gradually replace lost collagen — an underlying cause of facial aging — for results that can last more than two years. Sculptra Aesthetic is made with biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid, which is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body and helps to rebuild lost collagen through a series of treatments administered by a trained specialist.

Both products work very differently though they both are used for volume addition.  Each provides a different effect and are used in different areas for different reasons.

Voluma, a form of hylaronic acid, gives instantaneous results that last up to two years.  Usually, most people need a touch up around 2-4 months and it’s a great option for those looking to add volume.  The downside is its softness.  Because it is so soft, any significant volume changes requires 5-6 syringes every 2 years. Voluma vs. Sculptra

Voluma and Sculptra are both excellent fillers. Voluma is often the most “sculptural” filler. When it is injected over the cheekbones patients will see a very nice elevation and lift of the tissues. A wonderful advantage of Voluma is that if you don’t like the result for any reason it can be “erased” like any of the hyaluronic acid fillers. Usually, most patients need a touch up around 2-4 months. It is a great option for those looking for adding volume instantaneously.  The downside is its softness.  Because it is so soft, any significant volume changes requires 5-6 syringes every 2 years.

On the other hand, Sculptra is more often used for general (less precise) volume of the facial areas from the cheek to the jawline.

Sculptra Aesthetic unlike Voluma helps stimulate collagen growth which helps to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds over time. It can take 3-4 months to see the results, so it isn’t instantaneous but it can last 2-3 years.  On average, patients need 3-5 vials to get a good volume result.

The downside of Scupltra is that it depends on your body’s ability to produce collagen.  Even though the average needed is 3-5 vials, at the end of 3 months, you might find that your body doesn’t produce collagen at the same rate or in the same amount compared to someone else and you may need more.

At that point, you can have more Sculptra or switch to something like Voluma if you’re not interested in waiting for results.  Our patients like Sculptra because it gives a gradual, natural result over time; but it can be a longer time for some.

BluePoint’s injectors are the most experienced and knowledgeable in the area of dermal fillers. The choice of your injector is probably more important than their choice of product. Our injectors perform the Sculptra Aesthetic treatments within the deep dermis, where strands of collagen support your skin’s structure. Over time, it helps the body reproduce lost collagen. On average, BluePoint injectors recommend three injection appointments over a period of a few months. The number of injection appointments and the number of injections per appointment vary from patient to patient, depending on how much collagen has been lost.

Results appear gradually over the treatment regime (typically three injections over the course of three to four months) and can last up to two years.

If you want to appear more youthful-looking — without appearing like you’ve had work done — then chances are Sculptra Aesthetic may be a good choice for you.
